Red Cross website hacker from China jailed

Yang Litao, 23 from China has been sentenced to two years in jail after he was found guilty of hacking Red Cross website to steal funds meant for Sichuan earthquake victims. The Sichuan earthquake which measured at 8.0 Ms occurred on 12 May 2008 in Sichuan province of China.

Yang hacked into the website using administrator’s user name and password and had opened four fraudulent bank accounts so that he gets all the donations rather than Red Cross.

He also infected the site with malware, causing it to be shut down and cleaned. The process took 72 hours, during which time no money could be accepted.

It is not known how much money was he able to collect before being caught.
