First Chrome Security Extension? BitDefender.
Quickscan, a tool which scans the computer's memory and opened files for viruses using new in-the cloud scanning technology, is apparently the first antivirus-related extension to be accepted.
As you probably already know, the idea behind Quickscan is to determine if any viruses are active on your PC, and to do that in a very short time. As such, Quickscan is very suitable for inclusion in browsers, since it may be useful to check for viruses before visiting your bank's website, for instance.
It's design is what makes it fast: only new, unknown files found in memory are scanned, but not on your computer - they are sent to the BitDefender Quickscan server and analyzed, so the Quickscan client (the part that is actually on your computer) does not actually have to do any detection, so it is really small and fast.
Quickscan is a project of the BitDefender Labs and was initially conceived as a demonstrator and test case for in-the-cloud antivirus scanning technologies being developed at BitDefender.
